Chicago Police Search of Vehicle that Killed 5 year old Maria Gonzalez in Fatal Hit & Run

HIT AND RUN, the favorite "INSURANCE" of Chicago's Minority Vehicle Drivers

Police are looking for a driver of a car that struck and killed a 5-year-old girl Saturday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The dark-colored sedan was in the 5900 block of South Mozart Avenue when it struck the girl around 3:15 p.m., according to a Chicago Police Department statement.

The girl was identified as Maria Gonzalez, who lived on the same block where she was killed, according to the Cook County medical examiner's officer. She was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner.

The car, which has a sunroof and a spoiler, was last seen traveling westbound on 60th Street from Mozart, according to authorities.

The vehicle may have a front-end bra, sport muffler and a broken lamp, police said.
