Tom Dart hires recent college graduate Patrick Flannery as Chief Policy Officer at the Cook County Sheriff's office . Patrick Flannery is the son of Fox News Political Editor Mike Flannery. Patrick Flannery beat out hundreds of applicants despite ZERO law enforcement experience. Patrick is a self-proclaimed environmental activist who will now be implementing Sheriff policy.

Investigating sources of polluted soil in Chicagoland.
- Research revolved around Chicago's Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods.
- Collaborations were held with community organizations, a professor at Harold Washington University, Chicago's Social Justice High School, and Northwestern University chemistry classes.
- Steps included a research plan, map building, soil gathering, digestion, ICP-AES and ICP-MS analysis, and Arc-GIS 10 analysis.
- Culminated in an Environmental Science Department honored senior thesis.
- Project is ongoing
