Pension Update Sort Of:
This is what is in the pot currently. FOP, Sgt, Lt., Capt and Fire formed a coalition late last year to fight for our pension rights. They just concluded a meeting with the city last week. This is a summary of what might, could and sort of be going on.
The city is currently writing a bill with this in it. The city would get to own their own casino, and during the planning and construction of the casino resort facility they would open up a temporary casino at the McCormick place. They estimate that the profits from the casino would be close to 400 million a year. Now hears the grabber. All of the profits from the casino would go entirely to the police and fire pension funds for the first 5 years.
After that it would be split between the pubic pension funds. They expect the bill to be finished being written this week and they want it rushed and passed through both houses this week since I think Friday or Saturday is the last day of the legislation session. They have rushed bills through before. They also can extend the sessions but the info I have is that they would need more votes to get it passed. Presently they believe that have the votes to get it passed now.
No I do not have a bill number because it has not been introduced. While this was being reviewed I expressed my thoughts that I would not trust any of them in the city or down state. It was mentioned that this seems to be the best deal in town since we would not be giving up anything, and then it was mentioned if they do go through with it despite our objections what could we do about it???? Sad but true.
While I have not heard them I was told that there are already radio ads against the bill. They state that no one else benefits from the bill and that is unfair. Just wanted to let you know. If I get a bill number I will pass it on and you can watch the progress at ilga.gov.
The medical benefit fight with Krislov as the attorney update. Krislov was requesting additional funds from the RCPA. The run down is the RCPA gave 50,000, RCPA members about 35,000, FOP 100,000, Sgts 10,000, and Fire 2,500. The other three pension funds nothing. The response to Krislov will be that the RCPA is happy to provide additional funds when Fire and the other three funds kick in money. Right now the police are funding the entire fight, and when if Krislov wins all of the other 4 funds will benefit.
It is difficult for the RCPA to demand anything from Krislov since we did not hire or contract him. He is a court appointed lawyer. However, if you chose to forward any funds to Krislov and have not yet please make sure you include your email address because Krislov does send out updates and current briefs. Its not that Krislov is not doing what he should be doing, which he is, it’s that we need those other idiots to step up and pay the preacher or attorney.
