Hometown, IL Carie Grimes killed in single vehicle accident - Her car ended up in water at the Saganashkee Slough - police suspect drunk and/or drug driving

A 30-year-old woman from south suburban Hometown died of injuries she suffered in a Saturday morning crash in the south suburbs, according to Cook County sheriff's police officials.

Police were called to 107th Street between 104th and Archer avenues at 4:55 a.m. Saturday when a passing motorist noticed a crash at the Saganashkee Slough, according to officials.

At the location, police saw a gray Honda in the water near the shoreline, police said. Police found the driver unresponsive.

North Palos Fire Department officials were able to extricate the woman from the vehicle, and she was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The woman, Carie Grimes, of the 8900 block of South Main Street, was pronounced dead at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The office determined that she died of blunt trauma to her head and neck when her vehicle struck a fixed object, according to police.

Police think alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
